Company growth is incredibly exciting. It’s a sign that you are destined for great things, and that your business plan is working exactly as you hoped it would. Growth can, however, come with big problems too. You may have to move premises, start recruiting and deal with unexpected issues you couldn’t have previously imagined. If you are enjoying the fruits of your recent success but are worried about how to handle it, here are some tips for managing your company’s growth.  

Management structure

If you had a minimal management structure beforehand, then now is a good time to start broadening it to keep stability and monitoring at every level. While many might see additional management structures as red tape, it ensures all employees have someone to turn to in the event of a complaint or for a change in their role. If they are dissatisfied with their feedback or manager, they can then go over that line-manager’s head.

Effective HR

With new personnel comes new responsibility, and so your HR team really does need to be effective to handle the new recruitment tasks ahead. They will also need to be trained to cope with more complex issues, and unfortunately this can mean a higher level of queries and maybe even complaints. When you hire more people into your teams you will inevitably have some friction, which will have to be dealt with by an empathetic and pragmatic HR team.

When it comes to hiring new talent to cope with your business expansion, make sure that this time is not wasted by hiring people out of haste. You should take your time to find the best talent, as people who are not the right fit for your company will only slow your progress down.

Waste

Depending on what your company does, you may have to suddenly deal with much more waste than you previously had to cope with. This can be a worry if you have new premises but no means of processing different general waste products, plastics, glass and metals that your company leaves in its wake. Finding new balers and compactors for sale is a good way to think about how you process the waste leaving your building, particularly if you are a business who manufactures products.

Be prepared for cultural changes

If your company is moving into different geographical areas or is adopting a more professional culture, then your employees should be brought up to speed on this immediately. For example, some of the more senior members will be required to go on more business trips and adopt more professional roles. They should therefore have some decent training to keep them informed.

As your business grows, you are always likely to encounter some teething problems. These are part of the course of expanding your company, and the best way to handle these problems is to anticipate any issues you think will pose problems and create a strategic plan.
